"Iranians cannot do much from their overcrowded prisons and dark solitary cells when a handful of non-elected leaders monopolize power and access to the country's resources. This is an unfair struggle between unequal adversaries. Iranians need support and visibility. An international mobilization and support from civil society (academics, students, journalists, lawyers, artists, workers...), regardless of shifting governments' policies, can help prevent yet another generation of young Iranians to forgo their rights and feel powerless and irrelevant. It can also help them bring moderation in their government's foreign policy. Iranians desire to have a say in their own destiny is legitimate. They need visibility and support for their attempt to peacefully assemble in protest against electoral fraud and state violence. They need to see that their peers outside Iran have not forgotten them. "
